Bunmi Babatunde Nigerian, b. 1957

Bunmi Bababtunde is a Nigerian contemporary sculptor born in Ile-Ife in 1957. He got his ND and HND in 1981 and 1983 from the Yaba Institute of Technology, after which he went on to complete his National Youth Service Program. In 1984 he opened up his own studio in Lagos and has been in full time studio practice ever since.
 
Renowned for his fluid sculptures in wood, bronze and fiberglass, Bunmi Bababtunde’s works depict his active subjects in a nimble and graceful manner. His works reflect contemporary themes on human evolution, growth, expression. He has worked on a number of public, large scale installations, a few of which can be seen along the main roads of Lagos state, like the 35 ft high and 33 ft long bronze installation, Possibilities.
 
His works have also been featured in numerous exhibitions and auctions both locally and internationally. He is a member of the Society of National Artists and is also a founding member of the Guild of Professional Fine Artists of Nigeria.
 
In addition to being an excellent sculptor, Bunmi also likes to give back to the community and he Chairs the Universal Studio of Art, alongside a number of his fellow professional sculptors and painters.
