Abraham Uyovbisere Nigerian, b. 1963

Abraham Uyovbisere was born in July 1963 in Burutu Delta State. He earned a first-class Bachelor of Arts degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1987). Uyovbisere also holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting (1996) from the University of Benin, where he won the Yusuf Grillo Award for life drawing and the T. A. Fasuyi Award for painting (1987).
 
Typical of Uyovbisere’s work, is the application of paint in a rhythmic manner, clearly defining a highly individual expression. He has since become well-known for his studies of the female form, and paintings of the durbar. Carefully nuanced, his figures fix their viewer with a steady unabashed gaze.
 
Uyovbisere is an accomplished artist and has received numerous awards such as the Distinguished Artists Award from the Delta Government (2006) and The Most Dedicated Programme Director at the Ovie Brume Foundation (2008). Abraham Uyovbisere lives and works in Lagos. His works can be found in several significant collections in Nigeria and abroad including the National Collection and The State House, Abuja. He is also a member of the Society of Nigerian Artists and is well-exhibited in Nigeria, Europe and the United States.
 
He has participated in several exhibitions including La Floraison, Bloom 3, Alexis Galleries, Victoria Island, Lagos.
