In Being Free, Deborah Segun explores the diverse bodies of women through shape and colour, portraiture and narrative, creating an important counterpoint to society’s patriarchal notion of the “ideal woman”. Combining abstraction and figuration Segun creates voluptuous figures in varied graceful poses, celebrating the female form in a refreshing, lyrical style, in her solo exhibition.
