The title Pure Water serves as both a reference to Idu’s vision of a balanced world and to the plastic sachets commonly used for drinking water in Nigeria. While these sachets provide affordable drinking water to millions, they also contribute to environmental pollution by blocking drains and waterways, negatively affecting communities.
Through the exhibition, Idu highlights environmental challenges facing urban and coastal communities while advocating for cleaner waters. His paintings portray individuals pursuing freedom despite obstacles, creating scenes of youthful innocence, adventure, and hope amid life’s uncertainties and social pressures.
